Martin Gould

Associate - Sustainable Materials and Business Development

Martin has had a lifelong passion for developing and working in renewable technologies. In 1999, he started Bio-Clear Energies in Hong Kong – a company that manufactured biodiesel from waste restaurant oil. Through this process, he developed and set up a factory for processing waste oil into biodiesel and worked at commercialising a product which was on the cutting edge of reducing carbon particulate and NOX pollution in Hong Kong. This journey connected him to many levels of government and business whilst also giving him insight into the complex interactions driving both.

In 2012, Martin moved his family back to New Zealand to bring them the clean and healthy environment he enjoyed as a youth. It was here that he managed to get involved in Syndynamics – a company that had a plasma gasification technology with the potential to allow the process to become ubiquitous and widely used. Martin worked to develop the company’s commercial potential. Eventually, the company was sold for the purpose of further developing this unique and carbon-neutral waste remediation technology. Martin is educated with a business management degree majoring in both finance and marketing. He learned to speak Japanese fluently, Cantonese conversationally, and is currently learning Spanish for fun.
